I am so blessed and I don't even appreciate it

I hate self-pity. Despise it. Abhor it. But I engulf myself in it.

I've always found it strange how quickly I can enter mood swings, from amazing highs to extreme lows and back again. It's like manic depression. It's disturbing.

But the big thing I hate about self-pity is how self-centred it is. The world does not revolve around one individual mortal on this planet, and so what should the world care about a single individual who is undergoing some sort of minor trial? Please compare with the trials that people all over the world endure every day. Self-pity consists of people thinking about themselves, only about themselves, and not taking action to actually change things for the better; when I say for the better, I mean both for them and for the people with whom they share this planet.

So I get sick of people who whine and complain about how much their lives suck, when in fact, their lives are quite nice and attractive. I am usually at the top of the list of people I despise. But the worst. Oh, the worst. People who choose to be in their particular situations especially have no grounds for complaint. You don't like it? Get out of there already. You have a choice.

And so does it figure that we must lose something in order to appreciate its value and realize that there is more to the world than our self-centred sentience?

Thank you for the loss.
Blessed Be Your Name
By Matt Redman

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
